Geocache Description:

The most famous historic swimming spot in Welland, Ontario, was the Cross Street Pool, which operated from 1946 to 1984. Famously converted from an old canal aqueduct that carried the Welland River under the early canal, the beloved community landmark sat near Main Street and is now a parking lot behind Civic Square.

The old pool was closed in 1986 because it would have cost half a million to upgrade it to current health & safety standards.

There was also a Wading Pool. Built in the 1940's, it was the size of a parking lot (which is what’s there now) and had a large fountain in the centre that sprayed water about 20 feet in all directions.

Photos from Welland Library, Thank you.

Congratulations to DCBRJ for FTF
