Safe Harbour

For the first time in many days, the sea lies calm.
The wind still fills the sails, but its strength is no longer needed. Ahead, the coastline opens into a broad natural harbour where deep water gives way to sheltered anchorages. High sandstone cliffs stand watch over the entrance, while wooded coves disappear beyond the headlands.

The lookout smiles.
"Land at last, Captain."

Captain Mercer closes his telescope.
"Aye... and a welcome sight it is."

Fishing boats pass quietly. A pilot cutter crosses their bow. Beyond the entrance, more ships lie safely at anchor than the crew have seen since leaving home. After weeks at sea, the familiar bustle of masts, yards and merchant vessels brings a welcome sense of relief.


Mr Wallace looks across the peaceful water.
"It seems strange, Captain. After all we've faced... to arrive so quietly."
Mercer nods.
"That is the mark of a successful voyage. The finest journeys are remembered not for the storms they endured, but because every soul returned safely."

The Lady Eleanor glides towards her berth as the anchor is cleared for letting go.

The voyage is almost over.
