Geocache Description:

World Postcard Day 2026

After the success of the last two years, I thought I'd hold another quick lunchtime gathering to enable local geocachers to celebrate World Postcard Day and gain the virtual souvenir for their geocaching profile. If this is your first event, please say so in your log so we can look out for you and help to involve you in the fun!

From 27th September to 3rd October 2026, Geocaching is celebrating World Postcard Day with a twist. If you attend any official Geocaching event during this period and post an “Attended log” for that event, you’ll receive a special World Postcard Day souvenir on your Geocaching account. It’s a fun way to celebrate postcards and geocaching simultaneously!

Long before geocaching built an entire community, the mailbox was another way to discover the world and connect with others. Geocaching and postcards both unite humans through shared experiences and turn ordinary places into meaningful destinations. Whether you sign a log sheet or a postcard, you’re connecting with someone through the joy of discovery.

Observed every year on 1st October,  World Postcard Day celebrates the very first postcard, innovating the world forever. Since 2019, the day encourages people worldwide to write, mail, and exchange postcards to spread joy, connect with others, and celebrate the tradition of handwritten mail.

The Plan of Action

  • Meet at the coordinates at 12:30pm
  • Bring a postcard to post in the nearby gold postbox (optional)
  • Chat, swap trackables and mingle
  • Sign the Event postcard, which is also the logbook
  • Post the logbook!
  • Take a group photo

There are a number of gift shops in Bailgate where you can get a postcard, and a post office nearby for buying a stamp (see waypoint).

International Postcard Exchange (Optional)

Once again, we are connecting with fellow geocachers from around the world through postcards. Each postcard carries a little piece of where we come from, along with greetings and stories from our geocaching community.

Join us for another round of postcard exchanges and celebrate the connections that geocaching can create between players around the world!

If you would like to exchange postcards with other players, please complete this form by 20th September 2026

The postcard exchange is optional. You do not need to join the exchange to attend the Event, and you may also join the postcard exchange even if you are unable to attend the event in person.
