On 16.2.2026 a event was held GCBHZX4 Emergency Bored Meeting to decide on names for future events. One of the ideas put forward by the geocaching community was Key Australian Figures. So all the events held in the month of September will be named after Key Australian Figures 1800's then we will move on to the next idea mentioned at that event.
John Macarthur was an English soldier, pastoralist, and entrepreneur who pioneered Australia’s merino wool industry. Arriving in Sydney in 1790 as a lieutenant in the New South Wales Corps, he established Elizabeth Farm and in 1797 imported merino sheep, selectively breeding them to produce fine-quality wool. His lobbying in England secured land grants, enabling Camden Park to become a major wool estate. Though a central figure in the 1808 Rum Rebellion and often in conflict with governors, his legacy rests on transforming Australia into a leading global wool producer.
