From this spot on June 29, 2026, I stopped and looked south toward the Wet Mountains. I spotted a column of smoke. I texted my husband and told him I saw a fire.
This was the day the Aspen Acres fire started south east of Cañon City. By the time I got home it had grown to over 3000 acres. In 17 days, it topped 101,000 acres and eventually burned over 102,000 acres including multiple homes and other buildings. It caused evacuations for days and in some places even weeks.
Parts of it were still smoldering well into August.
The cache is a small lock and lock.
