What better way to celebrate Earthcache Day than taking our CITO to the next level.
Smack-bang between 2 close-by Earthcaches is a beach of half boulders and half sand, Boulder Beach.
Each time i come here there is debris to pick up, washed up on the sand and caught in the boulders.
Back in 2022 I was lucky enough to join the Tangaroa Blue https://tangaroablue.org/ team of volunteers for a week at the top of Cape York. We cleaned the 5 Beach Loop, picking up 3 tonnes of rubbish. We also sorted all that rubbish into categories of materials, sizes, lengths, weights, brands and country of origin. All this data was entered into the Australian Marine Debris Database (AMDI) to assist in prevention and education initiatives.
I found all this to be a valuable experience I'd love to share with the Geocaching community. For this reason I have invited Tangaroa Blue to join us for a morning clean up, show us how to sort the debris and enter our data into the system.

Where: Boulder Beach. Meet at Rocky Point Road carpark, Skennars Head
Date: Sunday 11th October
Time: 9am to midday. Come for the full morning or help out for an hour. I will be there early to set up the sorting station.
Bring: Sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses, water, grabbing tool, sensible shoes for walking on boulders, snacks.
I will provide extra sunscreen, cask water, gloves, bags, 1st aid kit, sharps container, hand sanitiser.
There will also be fruit, muesli bars and electrolytes (BYO reusable cup or bottle)
This is not a patrolled beach and does have rips. Lennox Head and Sharpe's Beach are safe to swim, with Surf Lifesavers on patrol.
Toilets are a 5 minute drive in either direction at Pat Moreton Lookout or Sharpe's Beach.
No crocodiles!
