> Saint John's Cathedral <

Located in the heart of Vieux-Lyon, Saint-Jean Cathedral—also known as the Primatiale Saint-Jean (seat of the Primate of the Gauls)—is a building that blends Gothic and Romanesque styles. Its construction spanned three centuries, from 1175 to 1481.

One of the building's distinctive features is its astronomical clock. Created in the late 16th century, it displays the date, the positions of the moon, sun, and Earth, and the positions of the stars above Lyon. The date it shows remains accurate until 2019. Reflecting the knowledge of the time, it depicts the sun revolving around the Earth!

Saint-Jean Cathedral also boasts remarkable stained-glass windows dating back to the early 12th century. The central rose window on the façade is particularly impressive.

> Des fossiles <

A. Rudists, fossils of bivalve mollusks with thick and often asymmetrical shells, are commonly found in Cretaceous marine limestone formations.

B. Bivalves, fossils of mollusks with two-part shells, are frequently found in marine sedimentary formations.

C. Gastropods, fossils of marine or terrestrial mollusks with spiral or sometimes reduced shells, are frequently found in marine and continental sedimentary formations.

D. Ammonites, fossils of cephalopod mollusks with spiral shells, are commonly found in marine sedimentary formations.

E. Corals, fossils of polyp-shaped cnidarians, are often found in reef limestone formations.

> Fossilization <

A. Identical preserved shell: The original shell is preserved without major alteration, allowing its structure and external details to be observed. The size corresponds to that of the living organism.

B. Crystallized shell: The shell is transformed by the recrystallization of the original minerals, sometimes modifying its texture but retaining its general shape. The size remains close to the original.

C. Filled shell: The shell is partially or completely filled with sediment or minerals, retaining its external contour but with a solid interior. The size corresponds to that of the shell.

D. External molding: The interior void of the shell is filled, then the shell dissolves, leaving a mold of its outer surface. This mold reflects the inner shape of the shell, often in greater detail.
