Geocache Description:

This is a chance for geocachers to support the Indiana Dunes National Park.  Come prepared to work on a variety of projects that the park needs help with.  Now you can volunteer your time and be part of a CITO event.  This has been coordinated with the Park Connection Office.

Event time is from 9am to 12pm.  Meet at the parking lot of the Chelberg Farm located at 618 Mineral Springs Road. Be prepared to work outside.  Past projects included restoring habitats, removing invasive species, trail work, clearing trees, and splitting wood.  Tools and safety gear provided by the NPS.  Please note that not all work projects happen near the starting point.  Some work projects may take us to other locations within the park property.  We will make announcemts as needed on the cache page.  We meet at the Parking lot for the Chelberg Farm at 9am, sign in with park staff and get information about the project.  Volunteers will recive a tempoary parking pass for their vehicle upon check in with park staff.

You will be working alongside park staff, park volunteers and members of the local community.  With the recent storms, any help would be appreciated.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the event or the park.

One Day. Many Communities. A World of Difference.

A little over 2 years ago georeyna a geocacher in Houston, TX asked a simple question - What could happen if geocachers around Texas came together on one day to make their communities cleaner?  Based on that simple question, Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) created an event named CITO Across Texas in conjunction with World Cleanup Day.

Geocachers throughout Texas held cleanup events on the third Saturday in September. Each event is locally organized, but together they became part of something much bigger.  CITO Across Texas was born!

The results have been tremendous. During 2024 and 2025:

  • More than 50 CITO events were held across Texas.
  • More than 700 volunteers participated.
  • Thousands of pounds of trash were removed from parks, trails, waterways, neighborhoods, and other public spaces.

In 2026, we want to take the next step and we are inviting the worldwide community of geocachers to help clean up our game board.
