Welcome all to one of my favourite stations on the TTC Subway system, College Station. This neighbourhood always felt "Big City" to me ever since I was a kid.
College Station is on the Yonge - University Line and opened in March 30th, 1954, as part of the original "Yonge Subway" that was Toronto's first subway line. The station currently has three entrances connecting three corners of Yonge and College to the station, with a long awaited expansion project that'll expand the station south to better integrate with the neighbourhood and College Park, the mall and mixed use complex which connects to the subway through a narrow passageway at present.
College Station is also expected to have accesibility this year as part of the same project, with two elevators added to the existing station in a few months time. Yonge and College has long been known for major landmarks like the old Maple Leafs Gardens, where the Toronto Maple Leafs previously played, along with local landmarks like Eaton's College Park store, now home to a retail mall and offices, residences and a public park. Other notable landmarks include Franz's College location, Toronto Hydro's Headquarters, and the Toronto Police Headquarters, along with close proximity to Hospital Row and historic neighoburhoods all around, of which some remnanants can be found nearby.
