The phrase “Home Away from Home” has been used to describe a place that is not someone’s actual home but still provides a feeling of comfort, familiarity, safety, and belonging. The idea comes from recognizing that home is more than simply a physical building. It can be any place where a person feels welcomed, cared for, and connected. Over time, the phrase has become a way of describing places that hold special meaning in our lives and where we feel a sense of peace and familiarity.
For me, Miller’s Chrildren's Hospital, Memorial Care Medical Center and Cherese Mari Laulhere Children's Village in Long Beach have become my second home...a true “Home Away from Home.” After giving birth to my son here, and spending so much time here throughout his many hospital stays, the familiar hallways, rooms, staff, and surroundings have become a part of my life. What may simply be a medical center to someone else has become a place where we have experienced care, kindness, support, challenges, triumphs, and important moments in my son's journey. Being here has given the phrase “ Home Away away from Home ” a much deeper meaning for our family because, in its own way, Miller’s Chrildren's Hospital, Memorial Care Medical Center and Cherese Mari Laulhere Children's Village has become a place where we all feel known, cared for, and comfortable.
