Geocache Description:

A detailed computer-generated illustration in the style of a modern family animation film shows a great crested newt portrayed as an anthropomorphic character. The newt is positioned at the edge of a sunny pond among tall reeds. Its dark, nearly black skin is covered with bright orange spots, and a distinctive jagged crest runs along its back. The newt is wearing an olive-green outdoor vest. Both the vest and a small green geocache container display the Geocaching logo. The newt is leaning toward the container and appears to be discovering or examining a hidden geocache. In the background, a natural wetland landscape can be seen, featuring reeds, aquatic plants, and trees. Warm sunlight creates vivid colors and reflections on the water. The scene conveys a friendly sense of adventure while combining the themes of nature conservation, the great crested newt, and geocaching.

Welcome to Ostheimer Himmelsweiher !

Although I am actually a Great Crested Newt (Triturus cristatus), many people call me a water dragon because of the jagged crest that appears on males during the breeding season. We Great Crested Newts are the largest native newt species in Germany.

My home, Ostheimer Himmelsweiher, is a protected natural monument and one of the last important refuges for my endangered species. We thrive here so well that researchers were able to confirm the rare evidence of successful breeding right at this pond.

As you search for the cache, take a moment to enjoy this special place and its unique wildlife. Please respect nature and stay on the paths so that future generations of little water dragons can continue to call this pond their home.

Good luck and happy caching from Walter Wasserdrache !
