World Postcard Day 2026

October 1 is World Postcard Day! This day began in 2019 to mark the 150th anniversary of the postcard. Since then, postcard enthusiasts (who no doubt overlap with the geocaching community) have gathered on this day to appreciate this humble but powerful piece of paper.

Geocaching HQ has created a souvenir to mark the occasion, which can be obtained by attending any geocaching event from September 27 to October 4, 2026... including this event!

The location and event

Saturday October 3rd

1pm - 3pm

Minor Works Community Centre (upstairs loft space)

Come along to the Minor Works Community Centre to spend time as a community. We will have a variety of materials for you to make your own postcards (optional) and a giant postcard log to decorate and sign. Pop in for five minutes or stay the whole time!

As this event will be also advertised by the City of Adelaide, there may be people who are not (yet!) cachers who wander in to make a postcard and see what geocaching is all about. Please make them feel welcome and tell them all about your favourite hobby!

There are tea and coffee facilities available as well as bathrooms in the community centre.

This location is wheelchair accessible, with a lift available. There is street parking nearby on Sturt Street, including disability parking. These parks are free of charge after 12pm.

Getting to Minor Works Building community centre

On Foot: The Centre is about three minutes' walk from the Adelaide Central Market.

By Tram: Alight at the City South tram stop and walk west along Sturt Street, turn right after 50 Sturt Street, through the courtyard and the Centre is a short distance in front of you.

By Bus: The free City Connector bus passes along Sturt Street (Stop 83) every 15 minutes in both directions. Routes 98A and 98C serve the free city and North Adelaide loop. Routes 99A and 99C serve the free city loop.
