Geocache Description:

dissociation du soluté (cette étape peut ne pas se produire avec des solutés moléculaires) ;
solvatation du soluté par les molécules de solvant environnantes ; selon la nature du soluté et du solvant, la solvatation peut impliquer des interactions ion-dipôle, des liaisons hydrogène ou des liaisons de van der Waals ;

To log this EarthCache, please do the following:

1- In your opinion, at what stage of dissolution is the top of the rock?

2- What is the primary factor driving this dissolution?

3- What do you think the small holes on the top of the rock represent?

In accordance with the 2019 guidelines, a photo identifying you inside the church is required. Log this cache as "Found it" and send me your answers—either via my profile or the geocaching.com messaging system (Message Center)—and I will contact you if there are any issues.

This is a T5 water-based cache; a canoe-type vessel is required.
Swimming to the breakwater is strictly prohibited!

The main subject observed here is the gradual dissolution of this rock.
At certain times, the rock is submerged in water, which accounts for its remarkable shape.

Dissolution is the physicochemical process by which a solute incorporated into a solvent (the solute is said to be dissolved) forms a homogeneous mixture called a solution.

Conversely, a solution is obtained by dissolving a chemical species in a solvent.

Formally, dissolution is defined as the mixing of two phases resulting in the formation of a new homogeneous phase[1].

The solute may be in a solid, liquid, or gaseous state. The resulting solution may be solid or liquid. In practice, the term "solution" is not used for a homogeneous mixture of gases.

During dissolution, the solute ions or molecules dissolve in three stages[2]:

dissociation of the solute (this step may not occur with molecular solutes);
solvation of the solute by surrounding solvent molecules; depending on the nature of the solute and solvent, solvation may involve ion-dipole interactions, hydrogen bonds, or van der Waals bonds;
dispersion of the solute within the solvent.
The dissolution of solid particles in a liquid depends primarily on the size of the particles being dissolved—since particle diameter determines the exchange surface area between the solid and the liquid—and on the mass transfer coefficient. This coefficient, in turn, depends on the diffusion coefficient of the species being dissolved and on the flow properties of the liquid (stagnant or agitated, laminar or turbulent). As dissolution progresses, the concentration gradient decreases, and the dissolution rate decreases as well.
