FF2026 - Ghost Train

 

Railway History of Centreville

 

  • The Junction: Centreville served as a busy hub where the line from Kentville split. The Kingsport Subdivision headed east, while the Weston Subdivision headed west.

  • The Track Layout: At its peak, the village featured a complex track plan that included a large wye, a siding, and a special spur track that cut across the wye via a diamond crossing.

  • Apple Industry Hub: The Centreville railway station was strategically surrounded by five large apple warehouses to serve local agriculture. 

  • Abandonment: Train service through the community peaked mid-century before the decline of the apple industry. The tracks through Centreville were officially abandoned in 1961.
