You’ve heard of Ocean’s 11, but have you heard of the Ghoulish Gang's 8: Owl Capone, Bendigo the Pup, Fat Cat, Topsy-Turvy Bat, Fletcher the monster, Count Cash, Rusty Rumpkin, and Corgis Candy Corn?
Unlike Danny Ocean’s crew, this bunch wasn’t targeting a high-end Las Vegas casino. Their target was far more prestigious: A FTF at the annual Midnight Moon Geocaching Festival’s special Geocache placed in the local bakery’s secure vault.
Owl Capone masterminded the operation from a branch outside the bakery, swiveling his head 180 degrees to keep watch. "Alright, you mugs," he hooted into a walkie-talkie, adjusting his tiny fedora. "The baker just left. We have exactly seven minutes before the grandfather clock strikes midnight. Initiate Phase One."
Instantly, Topsy-Turvy Bat dropped from the ceiling, hanging upside down right in front of the security camera. To the security guard watching the monitors, it just looked like a glitchy, inverted blur, completely blocking the view.
With the cameras blinded, Fletcher the monster used his massive, fluffy green arms to easily pry open the heavy iron back door. "Oops, sorry door," Fletcher whispered politely, setting it down gently so he wouldn't wake the neighborhood.
Inside the kitchen , the real challenge began. The bakery vault was protected by a high-tech laser grid. Enter Fat Cat. Having squeezed through a narrow coal chute, Fat Cat sat heavily on the main power breaker box. His sheer, magnificent weight forced the lever down, cutting the lasers just in time.
"Go, go, go!" barked Bendigo the Pup, wagging his tail so fast he practically hovered off the ground as he ran point, sniffing out the vault's combination lock. Right on his heels was Corgis, who used his low clearance and short hard candy shell to slide under a row of rolling pins, successfully retrieving the vault key that had fallen beneath the counters.
But just as they reached the vault door, Rusty Rumpkin—a squeaky, plastic pumpkin—tripped over a flour sack. SQUEAK! His plastic body hit the floor, sending a cloud of white powder into the air and triggering the backup pressure alarms.
"Alas! We are undone!" drama-queen Count Cash hissed, dramatically sweeping his velvet cape over his face. "The the other geocachers will now be on us in minutes!"
"Not on my watch," Rusty Rumpkin wheezed, puffing out a final cloud of flour that perfectly coated the room, revealing a hidden trapdoor.
Corgis bit the key, Bendigo turned the dial with his nose, and Fletcher pulled the vault door open with one mighty tug. There it was: the Ever-glowing cache with brand new log, glowing with a magical golden light.
By the time the others burst into the kitchen, the room was empty, save for a few stray feathers, a bit of dog hair, and a note written in neat, elegant script that read: Compliments of the Ghoulish Gang. We were First to Find.. We will hide new geocaches in honor of each member.
