NOTE: EARLIER DINING TIME @ 11:30AM (large booking at our normal time)
Freeling is a small town about 60 km north of Adelaide. It neighbours the Barossa Valley wine region, and at the 2021 census had a population of 2,688.
The township of Freeling was surveyed in March 1860 by Robert Stephenson and was named after Major-General Sir Arthur Henry Freeling, Surveyor-General of South Australia from 1849 to 1861.
The main source of income for the town is its extensive farming land, where mainly cereal crops are grown. It is regarded as some of the best farming land in Australia, with the University of Adelaide's Roseworthy Campus situated nearby.
The Gungellan Hotel, (2 Gray Street, Freeling), located conveniently in the heart of the town, will be the venue on this occasion.
A menu is availbe here.
Freeling was surveyed in 1860 as a stopping point on the new Gawler–Kapunda railway. Not long after, the town got a pub to match: the Railway Hotel, which opened its doors in 1886 and has been serving the district ever since.
For over a century it was simply the local: a bar for shearers, railway gangs and Barossa farmers on their way through the Mid North. That changed in 2001, when producers scouting South Australia for a new rural drama picked the pub, the truck stop and the showgrounds around it to stand in for the fictional town of Gungellan.
Eight seasons of McLeod's Daughters later, the name stuck. The hotel is still registered under its original title, but everyone, from locals to tour buses to the sign out front, knows it as the Gungellan Hotel.
I have booked for 15 and the cutoff for responses will be Friday 27th November at 12 Noon.

All are welcome. You can stay the entire time or just pop in ...and of course there are a plethora of caches located in the surrounding area.
