: quartz, fluorine, sulfures métalliques ou minerais d'or).
Origine sédimentaire : Des sédiments viennent combler progressivement une ouverture.
Bon Géocaching à tous 😎

Questions : Locate the spoiler photo in the gallery, found beneath the mannequin's feet and answer the following:
1 - Based on your observation, what is the thickness (width) of this vein ?
2 - Based on your observation, what is the orientation of this vein ?
3 - Determine and describe, in your own words, how this vein was formed.
4 - Take a photo of yourself, or an object representing you, at the WP, the choice of object is up to you, provided it does not contain any spoilers.

Lesson:
Definition :
A vein (or lode) is a sheet or slab of rock that fills a crack, fracture, or fault within a pre-existing geological formation.
Key characteristics :
Thickness (Width) : This refers to the thickness of the vein, which can range from a few centimeters to several meters (if it is very thin, it is called a "veinlet"; if it is a magmatic intrusion more than a meter thick, it is called a "dyke").
Orientation : It cuts through the surrounding (host) rock, typically in a cross-cutting manner (intersecting the layers at an angle), though it may sometimes run parallel to them (a "sill").
Walls (Contacts) : These are the rock surfaces that bound the vein on either side.
How is it formed ?
The fracture is filled through various processes:
Magmatic origin : Magma infiltrates a crack and cools in place (e.g., basalt, dolerite, aplite).
Hydrothermal origin : Very hot groundwater, laden with dissolved minerals, circulates through faults. As it cools while rising toward the surface, the mineral substances precipitate and form crystals (e.g., quartz, fluorite, metallic sulfides, or gold ores).
Sedimentary origin : Sediments gradually fill an opening.
Happy geocaching, everyone! 😎
