The school weather station collected temperatures throughout the day. It claims the temperature followed a steady pattern, but the station’s forecast is about as reliable as a snowman wearing sunglasses.

Part 1: Interpret the data
1. How much does the temperature change every 2 hours?
2. What is the temperature change per hour?
3. What was the temperature at noon?
Use your answers to write a linear equation in the form y = mx + b, where x is the number of hours after noon and y is the temperature.
Part 2: Find the code
Use the table and your equation. For each answer, keep only the ones digit.
1. Find the temperature drop from noon to 6 p.m. Divide it by 2.
2. Find the temperature at 6 p.m. Subtract 33.
3. Find the temperature at noon. Divide it by 8.
4. The rain gauge recorded 1.75 inches of rain. Multiply by 4.
5. Sunrise was at 6:48. Add the digits in the time.
6. Use your equation to find the temperature 9 hours after noon. Subtract that temperature from the noon temperature, then divide by 3.
Split the six-digit code into two three-digit numbers. Subtract 298 from the first number for the North decimal minutes, and subtract 417 from the second number for the West decimal minutes.
N 40 44.(answer - 298) W 112 31.(answer - 417)
