Question 1
Question 2
Question 3
Question 4
Question 5 (observation personnelle)

EarthCache: Cucuron, a savannah in the heart of the Luberon
Presentation
Today, the landscape of the Luberon is dominated by limestone hills, Mediterranean forests and crops. Yet, about 7 million years ago, the region had a very different face.
Cucuron's red silts have delivered many fossils testifying to a warm savannah-like environment. These discoveries revealed the presence of a particularly rich fauna composed in particular of animals related to elephants, hyenas, tigers, gazelles and giraffes.
The fossils found allow scientists to reconstruct the landscapes and climates of the past and improve our understanding of the Earth's evolution.
Tasks to be carried out
To validate this EarthCache, send the answers to the following questions to the cache owner.
Question 1
According to the sign, how old are the fossils found in the red silts of Cucuron?
Question 2
Name at least three types of animals that lived in this ancient savannah.
Question 3
Observe the surroundings of the site.
Describe in a few sentences the most striking differences between the current landscape and the one reconstructed on the panel illustration.
Question 4
Why are fossils an essential source of information for geologists and paleontologists?
Question 5 (personal observation)
Examine the rocks visible around the panel. Describe their color, their general appearance and indicate if you observe signs of erosion (creass, cavities, irregular surface, etc.).
