Geocache Description:

For more than 50 years, until the plant closed in 1986, Vacaville was often identified by the pungent aroma of dehydrating onions. Travelers on Interstate 80 were well aware of where they were when they passed through town as the smell filled their cars.

A reduced demand for dehydrated onions and lower cost products from overseas finally forced the closure in September 1986, costing some people the only jobs they had know for 40 or more years.

In the 90s, the site was redeveloped into shops, offices, restaurants, a multiplex movie theater and a skating rink.

A plaque near one of the offices recalls the company and the founder, and dedicates a tree to a local hospice organization.

To claim this virtual cache, find this plaque and answer these three questions:

1) What was the name of the company that operated here?
2) What individual is mentioned on this plaque?
3) When was the plaque dedicated?
