A Walk on the Wild Side Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cache Collectors: Fire and floods have claimed this geocache. In fact, the whole trail is washed out so it really would be a Walk on the Wild Side if you went looking for it.

Geocache Description:

Cross Town Trail, La Cañada
Difficulty: easy trail with a few fairly steep sandy parts. About 300ft elevation gain.

This is a multi-cache with 3 micro-caches (a main cache which is an ammo box at the listed location is currently out of commission).

We placed these caches here to introduce people to the Cross Town Trail located on the urban fringe above La Cañada. There always seems to be a lot of wildlife around in the brush on either side of the trail. Let us know what creatures you see.

We also made it a multi-cache to give some practice to novice GPS users. So hand over the receiver to grandma or the kids and see how they do. All the micro-caches are located close to the trail - just look for a log that doesn't belong at each location. The micros contain a codeword pen: make a note of the codewords, email us at least 2 of them and we'll send you an e-certificate in return. Please don't take the pens with you though.

The location of the main cache is given above but is currently not available. The spoiler below refers to the main cache, not the micros.

The micro-caches are located at:

N 34° 13.586 W118° 11.760
N 34° 13.584 W 118° 11.674
N 34° 13.703 W 118° 11.671

Directions to trailhead: You can start this hike from a couple of places, but we'd recommend starting at the end of Harter Lane at N 34° 13.412 W 118° 11.767. That way, you get to look for the micros on the way to the main cache and avoid having to cross any busy highways. Round trip is about a mile but if you feel like taking a longer walk, this trail links up with the Gabrielino trail at the east end going down to all those lovely caches in the Arroyo Seco. To the west, it joins up with the Mt. Lukens Connector Trail or loops down into La Cañada.

Good Luck.
