Geocache Description:

Morris Bridge Road Mountainbike Multi-Cache

This multi-cache is located throughout the miles of singletrack that comprise the Morris Bridge Road bike trails.  The cache has been designed to be challenging and to provide you with a moderately long ride through beautiful wilderness scenery.  Although the cache and the trails are accessible by foot, due to the distance involved and the nature of the area, a mountainbike is highly recommended.

The Area:  These trails are a popular site for mountainbikers of all levels.  The trails are probably best described as beginner to intermediate trails, consisting of a mixture of hardpack, softpack, sand, and mud (depending on recent rains).  Most trails are singletrack, with a mixture of fast straight trails and twisty technical trails.  This cache will take you through both.

Directions and Parking:  From the intersection of Fletcher Avenue and I-75 head east on Fletcher for about one mile.  Just after you pass the bypass canal, you will see a dirt road on your right hand side, with a small brown sign for the area.  Turn down that road which leads straight to the parking area.

The Cache:

  • Consists of: (4) mini-caches and one final fifty caliber ammo box cache.  The mini-caches are CD-R cases with directions or clues to the other caches. (Note that minicache #1 and #4 have disappeared and have been replaced with geostakes).  You will be guided from one mini-cache to the next until you reach the final cache.
  • Please bring other bike items to swap if possible.  You are also encouraged to bring biking stickers to place on the outside of the final cache.
  • Location:  The first mini-cache is located at N 28° 04.259'  W 082° 20.170'.  All mini-caches are within (20) feet of the trail and no bushwacking should be required.  The final cache is a little further away from the trail, but again, no bushwacking should be required.

Distance:

  • If you find all five caches, the shortest possible distance that you will be traveling (including to and from the parking lot) will be 7.2 miles.  If you are not familiar with these trails, expect the distance to be greater, as it is quite easy to get turned around in the numerous trails.
  • One of the mini-caches contains a clue that may enable you to skip one of the other mini-caches.  This has the potential of reducing your trip by about (2) miles.  You may want to brush up on your geocaching trivia!

Suggested Items to Bring:

  • GPS and compass (Duh. We do suggest you mount the GPS to your handlebars though - bungee cord works well for us)
  • Trail snacks (you might be out here for awhile)
  • Water
  • Bug spray (summer)
  • Paper and pen to write down clues
  • There are signs posted requiring helmets. If you own one, we recommend you bring it, but nobody is going to kick you out of here if you don't have one. Actually, in the eight years that we've been riding here, we've never even seen a ranger or other official-type person who might enforce this issue.

This cache was originally placed by HobieTramps and was adopted and maintained by duracell before he left the area.
