Geocache Description:

To get to this cache take Highway 160 West of the Spring Mountains to the coordinates listed. The trail starts just North of the Sandy Valley turn off and is on the West side of the Highway.

Many years ago during the settling of the great wild west, A man by the name of
John Butterfield had a vision. He envisioned a stage coach line running across
the plains carrying passengers and mail across the midwest to California and back.
To finance this endeavor, he and two other men,Charles Holmes and Josh Goodman
pooled their money and formed the B.H.G. group, code named, the OUTZBARL.

During one of their ventures through the great west, the stage was accosted by a
band of outlaws who were after the strongbox containing the money and gold.
Not to be overtaken by this band of thieves the stage driver sat up and began
shouting commands to the horses as he violently shook the reins.

As the horses suddenly bolted forward, their hooves pounding out a thunderous
roar, the stage jerked forward and began rocking from side to side as it bounced
wildly down the trail. It was all the passengers could do just to hang on as the
stage roared across the desert raising a cloud of blinding dust.

Somewhere along the Old Spanish Trail the stage hit a deep rut in the road and
the strongbox tumbled off the coach and become lost in the desert and was never
recovered. A large cache has been placed in that area to mark this historical event.

To get to the cache site you will need to start where the Old Spanish Trail picks up
from State Route 160. It begins just North of the Sandy Valley turn off and will
take you across the wide open desert heading North/West.
THE TRAIL BEGINS JUST OFF THE HIGHWAY AT COORDINATES : N 36' 00.487
W 115' 39.804

From there you will follow the trail until you come to a VERY LARGE GOLD NUGGET
which is about the size of a cocker spaniel. The coordinates are: N 36' 00.771
W 115' 43.511

It is just off the road a piece. I tried to move it closer to the road but couldnt
budge it. (Gold is awfully heavy you know!) When you find the"nugget" you will
be so far out in the desert your GPS signals wont reach, so you will have to
do as the stage drivers did, use the ODOMETER!
Set it for EXACTLY ONE (1) MILE. When you get there, if you happen to see any gold
nuggets the size of ROAD APPLES, watch your step, you are very close to the cache.

This is a rather large cache with a beginning inventory of:

6 VHS Movies
2 Dozen Cassette tapes
5 Hardback Books
1 35 MM Camera w/film
1 Kodak Disc Camera
1 Pair Binoculars
1 Game Cartridge
2 Desk Clocks
1 Alarm Clock
2 Designer Coffee Cups
4 Yo Yo's
1 Designer Duck Pillow
2 Baseball Caps
1 Set Baseball Cards
1 Set BASKETBALL Cards
1 Basketball
and......
1 pad and pencil

This cache is hidden in a large size 50 caliber ammo can and
is packed by volume not by weight so some settling of contents
may have occured during shipping and handling.

FOR EXTRA CREDIT:

THE LOST OUTZBARL STRONGBOX is located WITHIN 1500 of this cache,
However, since it was "lost" no direction for its location was given.
But if you happen to get lucky and find it, grab yourself a souvenir
dollar and gold nugget.

A WORD OF CAUTION:

After you find the cache you can continue down the road for several
miles where the trail will come out to the Tecopa highway.
HOWEVER, UNLESS YOUR STAGECOACH HAS 4 WHEEL DRIVE,
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMENDED THAT YOU GO BACK THE WAY YOU
CAME AS THE TRAIL HAS SOME DEEP RUTS AND LOOSE SANDY AREAS.
ALSO, IT WAS NEVER REPORTED IF THE OUTLAWS WERE EVER
CAUGHT SO THEY MAY STILL BE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE AND SINCE
YOU MAY BE CARRYING LOTS OF MONEY AND GOLD.............
