Geocache Description:

on top of the slate range between trona and panamint valley

welcome to the captain’s cache! but if you’re expecting to take anything, beware of the davey jones curse that will attach to you forever unless you leave something valuable.

cache is on the trail from trona to goler wash. the captain has been sailing through this area for 30 years or more, convinced that this trail must exist but unable to locate it on his charts, or locate someone who had real information on its location. the only prior information was from prior skirmishes with other pirates who claimed the trail was ‘very difficult’.

with some divine intervention, the trail was located starting near the valley wells sand and gravel plant and ending either at goler wash or about 100 yds east of the radar station near the ballart marina. trail is mostly easy, but 4wd will be required in each direction due to some loose surfaces on steep hills.

cache is a .50 ammo can (the captain’s crew sure seems to use a lot of .50 ammo during battles!) and has the typical valuable geocache stuff inside, including bumperstickers, beer coasters, chart of the mother lode area, dinuba police dept patch, treasure chest, a roll of teflon tape, golf ball from lake powell, Labrador retriever lighter and the ‘pickup pete’ travel bug.

the captain's supply of stash notes was destroyed in fighting with spanish galleons; if a cache seeker could remember to bring one along he might escape the davey jones curse....
