We stood near this spot once, long ago. Back then, there were many, many of us, scattered around the territory, and things were in such a state that nearly everyone knew of us, and we knew nearly everyone there was to know. And we were very important then – for we, who once were, and others like us, together, made what is now. Without us this state would be a near-deserted wilderness. The roads would be forgotten trails. The cities would be dust. We made what is here for you today. Some of us toiled a few short years, some labored for over a century before dying, and all of us worked hard, for there was no easy way back then. But what we did, and the price we paid, made the difference.
Today, nearly all of us are gone. Of most, only tatters and bones remain. Many of us left no trace at all but some tracks in the dust. A few old grizzled men may remember some of us, vaguely; but few, very few. But if you look carefully, in the right places – there are photos of us in our heyday, stories written about our former moments of glory or infamy.
The location of this virtual cache marks the spot near where three of us once were, for a time. Find the spot, and you will find our names. Find our names and you will know what we once were, and what we did. Think a moment on what might be (or not be) if we had not been here, years ago.
But do not look too hard, for our names is all you are likely to find left in this spot. Send Captain Swoop our three names, and he will give you credit for finding us. If you ask, he will even tell you how you might find what remains of one of us. In any case, this spot will be our remembrance, and in that way we live on, alongside the future we helped to create.
