Mojave River Library & Book Exchange Traditional Cache
Mojave River Library & Book Exchange
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is a large, heavy-duty plastic container that has been camo painted. It is partially buried and it has rocks on top. Please just uncover the top and open it- don’t pull it out.
This cache is located in a small canyon off the Mojave River. The surface of the river is now dry most of the time due to development and irrigation upstream (in this case to the south). Many years ago it was an above-ground river all of the time. Once every few years, usually in an El Nino year, the river actually flows above ground again for a few weeks or months when there is a lot of snowmelt in the mountains accompanied by rain. The cache is located above the level of the river but is not high in the hills. Easiest access is from an unimproved dirt road to the west of the cache that goes down between the hills to near the level of the river. No hill climbing is required for this route. The best point to park and walk from is about 495 feet from cache, then follow the base of the hills. High clearance or 4 WD recommended for this road, use your own judgement. Or,from the paved road you can walk along the base of the hills, or through the sand from about .3 mile away. Park your car in a safe place off the road. Depending on the route taken this cache can be anything from very easy to moderately strenuous. This cache is intended to be a place for the exchange of paperback books for the reading pleasure of geocachers. Other items and travel bugs are welcome of course, but books are the main theme. Feel free to take or leave a book even if you are exchanging with something else. Due to size issues let’s limit it to paperbacks. Books should be in plastic bags whenever possible. Please no food or animal treats as wildlife is abundant in this area. As always in the desert carry water and watch out for snakes. Please mention in your log what books you take or leave. Thanks!
