Geocache Description:

The cache is a large plastic box no longer wrapped in a black bin bag which is against the UK guidelines.

The Car Park for this cache is at: N51 22.812 W0 36.900 It has a height bar at 1.8m. OK, the purists could say that this is not a Sunninghistory cache as it is not in the present Parish of Sunninghill, but it was 900 years ago, so it counts! The area of heath land from Staines down towards Portsmouth has always had military connections, indeed Pirbright, Deepcut, Camberley/Sandhurst, Aldershot, Farnborough etc still have military installations and much of the area is used for training purposes. Sunninghill parish was the venue for reviews and mock battles in front of King George III in the summer of 1798. The search for this cache begins with a monument raised to commemorate another military review, the location was then known as Great Camp, and was a prominent tourist attraction. You need to go to the monument, just a few feet from the car park at: N51* 22.855 W00* 36.864 The information for the final cache location can be gleaned from the monument. IN MEMORY OF THE NOBLE LIFE OF QUEEN VICTORIA WHO REVIEWD 8ABC OF HER TROOPS ON THIS COMMON JUNE DE FGHI ________ AFTER A REIGN OF RS YEARS SHE RESTED FROM HER LABOURS JANUARY 22ND 1901 THIS CROSS IS ERECTED BY JKL PARISHONERS MNPO The final cache is at: N HF* BI.A(G-1)C W KL* SR.JN(I+D) NB When I laid this cache both the map on my eMAP (and when I got home the Mapsource software) showed that I had crossed the railway line. If you are moving from the monument directly to the cache location there is absolutely no need to go anywhere near the railway which is electrified and very dangerous. Loading the waypoint data from the GPSr into Anquet maps showed the location in the correct position.
