Geocache Description:

Cache is located near the historic Treadwell Mine glory hole on Douglas Island. Numerous foot-trails (and some mining adits and the like-- be careful) riddle the area. Terrain is generally hilly, but not too steep, over smaller, not so well maintained trails. Can be icy in winter. Be careful with small children or if you're mountain biking, as the nearby glory hole is an open pit with no surrounding fence.

Cache is on the side of the Treadwell Glory Hole opposite the Paris Creek falls, near an old tram foundation. More information about historic mining operations and an online tour of the area are available at: http://juneau.ak.blm.gov/treadwellmine/default.html Cache can be reached easily from 6th st. or, by more adventurous travellers, from the Treadwell Ditch, Mt. Jumbo, or Historic Treadwell loop trails. For those less willing to wander, the easiest means of reaching the cache is to park at the cul-de-sac at the eastern end of 6th St. on Douglas and to take the small footpath into the woods. When the path approaches the glory hole, take a left and follow the GPS coords to an old mine foundation. The cache is located in this area, +/- 8m.
