Let's Take a Hike: I checked on the Sunken Garden Cache toady. Indeed it is missing. I hope to create a new geocache in the Sunken Garden area this spring.

This cache is in Moraine State Park on the South Shore along the Sunken Garden Trail. Park at N40°56.461', W80°05.582'. Follow the Sunken Garden trail over a little bridge. Turn left at the second trail intersection after the bridge. The trail now goes through a "sunken garden" or hidden valley. The valley is actually the result of strip mining. We have been hiking in this area of Moraine Park in every season for over twenty year. In the spring we enjoy flowers such as wild Rose, Wild Cherry, and Apple Blossoms here. In the summer as you can stole along you’re likely to see butterfies and hear birds guarding their nests. In the winter this is an excellent hiking and cross-country skiing area. Wildlife including snakes, geese, ducks, deer, beaver and muskrat are commonly seen here. You may be lucky and see the Osprey (a raptor) which nest on the North Shore by McDaniel’s Boat Launch. After you have found the cache you might want to continue along the trail. It makes a loop climbing to the top of the hill (is the hill a glacial moraine?), running along a ridge and returning down a long hill to the bridge you crossed.
I searched and searched for a hiding place that would involve some hiking, take you to interesting places and avoid poison ivy and jagger bushes. Believe it or not, you can get to the cache without going through briars or poison ivy. According to my GPS, the cache is .62 miles from the parking area. Enjoy the hike.
