Geocache Description:

This cache is a monument placed by Lehi historians to commemorate the fort wall that originally surrounded the then small town of Lehi that was settled by Mormon pioneers.

The plaque on the monument explains that the wall was built of mud that was packed between forms. As the mud dried the forms were moved up and more mud was piled on. This continued until the wall had reached a height of eight feet. The purpose of the wall was to protect the pioneers from hostile people in the area, particularly the natives. Space inside the fort was limited, and pioneer families had to fulfill certain requirements in order to obtain a lot within the walls. The wall served it's purpose, but eventually Camp Floyd was established in Fairfield and the soldiers stationed there provided protection for the saints in Lehi. Thus the wall became obsolete and was razed. Besides information about the history of the fort wall, there is a picture on of an artists conception of what the original fort looked like.
