Geocache Description:

Because the first cache was stolen, I have moved it to the above coordinates.

This is my first attempt at hiding a cache. I hope it isn't too difficult to reach. It is a traditional type of cache in a small container. I took advantage of the very cold weather and the ice to set this up but I don’t recommend crossing on ice unless you are VERY familiar with the conditions.

Although it is intended to be a nice canoe trip, more adventurous people can reach the cache by wading through the river when levels are low and the weather is warmer. I entered the river at N43 23.143 W80 21.741 and headed straight across to N43 23.103 W80 21.740 and the depth never exceeded about 30 inches.

If you are hunting for the cache around sunset in the summer, watch for deer between the river and Blair road to the south. I have seen as many as 8 at one time with a few of them crossing the river and strolling around the island.

There are a couple of places to enter the river depending on how long of an adventure you would like to have. One entry point is found at N43°25.362' W80°24.673'. A canoe can be rented across the road from this entry point. It would make a trip of about 12 kilometers and take several hours of beautiful scenery to reach the cache. A shorter trip can be started from N43°23.112' W80°23.073' and will be about 3 kilometers to the cache. An excellent exit point can be found at N43°22.208' W80°19.388' about 4 kilometers downstream. If you want to try to wade through the river, park at N43°23.466' W80°22.171' and walk the trail until you see the island.

While you’re cruising the Grand River, why not watch for places to set your own cache to make this a multicache day for future Geocachers.
