Geocache Description:

The cache is about 1/2 mile up a rocky canyon and about two hundred feet and two thousand brush up a side hill.

We thought we better get Cracker Jack and Stockley_True out of the high country before they get hurt. This cache is a fun scramble up a rocky canyon. It is the canyon that created the large slide some years ago. It is interesting to see the boulder path that is still visible all the way down to the houses below. The hike requires going through loose rocks so wear something that supports your ankles and a walking stick isn't a bad idea either. There is room to park two cars right where the road crosses below the canyon or a couple hundred feet up the road at the first cut bank. As you enter the canyon you will see some bailing twine modern art courtesy of local teenagers. Raven and Bear weight tested it at 210 lbs. I do not advise repeating their experiment. You will notice quartzite, limestone, and conglomerate rocks in the canyon and scramble over bands of each. The cache is just inside the Forest Service land. The general location is obvious as you approach it. I suggest you go a couple hundred feet up the canyon above the cache by the two large rocks on the right side of the bottom of the canyon and work back. The brush is not as thick and you will have less of an incline. Notice the small hanging garden on the shady side of the big rock. Just below it you will notice a pile of sticks and discarded pieces of cactus that a rodent has made. There are various mosses and lichens (an alga and a fungi living in symbiosis) on the rock and nearby trees. Be sure and take a lunch to enjoy on top of the big rock the view is spectacular in all directions.
