This cache will be archived on Monday 4th August 2003, as we are moving "up north"!
The cache is hidden off a public footpath, between Ewshot and Church Crookham, Hampshire.
While we were finding a good place to hide our first cache, Monkhouse Junior (aged 4, with a vivid imagination!) said, “I can hear them shooting the sheep!” We could hear the sound of gun fire (presumably from the local range) and he said after the bang he could hear a sheep bleating – so why were they being shot? Hence the play on words for the name of the cache!
We suggest parking in Ewshot village hall car park, at N 51° 14.718’ W 000° 49.941’. Walk up the hill, past the children’s play park on your left and go over the stile. Go straight on along the path, following the hedge on your left. This is a public footpath. Through the trees, the footpath cuts across a field – follow the cache co-ordinates.
The ground can be very boggy and waterlogged in places after heavy rain.
The cache (small ammo box) started with:
Log book and pen
Thomas the Tank Engine stickers
Blue and white gel pens
Stamper pen
Leather coin holder
Photo frame
Picnic recipe book
If you want to make this into a circular walk, continue along the footpath after visiting the cache until you reach the road. Turn left up the road and left again at the junction. This road leads you back into Ewshot, where there is a pub with a large beer garden at N 51° 14.610’ W 000° 49.888.
