Geocache Description:

THE ASGAARD!

Simply one of the most beautiful vistas in all the Adirondacks -you don't even have to leave the car!!!

This is a cache where you must upload a photo of you, your GPS, or something of the area to get credit for finding it. Or paint me a picture of the site, and upload that. Be as creative as you wish.

This is one of those true vistas. And when you consider the land you are looking at has an interesting history, it becomes even more so. This isn't ancient history.

After you go to the site, come back and look at this: - http://organizations.plattsburgh.edu/museum/rkent1.htm - - You will see that Rockwell Kent lived there, in Ausable Valley, and he lived till 1971. Once again, this isn't ancient history.

Who's Rockwell Kent????

Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) -artist, author, and political activist, architectural draftsman, illustrator, printmaker, painter, lobsterman, ship's carpenter, and dairy farmer.

Born in Tarrytown Heights, New York, he lived in Maine, Newfoundland, Alaska, Greenland, the Adirondacks and explored the waters around Tierra del Fuego in a small boat. Kent's paintings, lithographs, and woodcuts often portrayed the bleak and rugged aspects of nature; a reflection of his life in harsh climates.

Go to SUNY Plattsburgh's library where the actual work is on the walls in a gallery. The Rockwell Kent Collection is the cornerstone of a growing serious art collection. The acceptance of Sally Kent's initial gift to the college in 1974 began a process, which culminated in the official dedication of Plattsburgh State Art Museum in 1989.

Suny P-burgh is a "museum without walls," meaning, just look around anywhere on campus to see various photos, sculptures, et cetera. This isn't ancient history, once again. Go see it.

The collection is comprised of 17 paintings, 39 prints, 41 original drawings, 104 books, dinnerware, ephemera and a variety of briefer works.
