eddie-the-razor: Well, boys & girls - not only has the cache gone away, but so has the historical marker. Soooo... I'm permanently closing this cache. It was a good 23-year run! Thanks for all the visits!

During a drought in 1838, 850 Potawatomi Indians were force-marched from Indiana to Kansas. During the march, 40 of their tribe died. They made an encampment from September 4 to November 4, 1838 here at Island Grove. One child died on October 1 and is buried there. The cache is located at Island grove at the coordinates listed above. The cache is close to but not at the historical marker memorializing the event. The marker is located approximately 1/2 mile west and across the road. You may drive but if you walk to the memorial, please be careful of the traffic. The marker is located at 39 45.814 and 89 57.391. If you do not wish to visit the memorial, you may see a picture of it here. This cache was recently upgraded from a small jar to an "ammo" case. It is located in the woods and has been covered and disguised as well as possible. If you find it, please secure and re-hide it. It’s a pretty area and has great historical significance. Learn and enjoy!
