Luxor, the well known manufacturer of radio and TV products in Motala, was founded in 1923 by Axel Holstensson. This was the same year the tomb of Tutanchamon was rediscovered in Egypt close to the city of Luxor. The saying is that this was the reason for the choice of name for the company.
The first product was the "high tech" product of the time, a chrystal receiver.
The factory was in downtown Motala until 1948 when a new plant was built at the current site. During Luxors golden years in the 1970s, the plant was expanded to its current size. Luxor seized to be an independent company in 1984. Since then the plant has been part of different multinational corporations. The production of consumer electronics finished in 2002 when the plant was closed. The brand name Luxor lives on, but products are no longer manufatured in this country.
