Elk Meadow Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Over a mile hike along well maintained trail. Flat level terrain once you reach the meadow but some steep trails before that. If it is wet out it may be a bit slippery.
The cache is a regular ammo canister. It is safely secured in a place that should keep it protected from the weather and area campers.
Located within Oxbow Park, but if you start at the equestrian trail you can avoid the entrance fee. We recommend you park at N 45-28-995 W 122-18-075. Be careful to park legally at this location. (This is a more enjoyable starting point; the hike is only slightly longer but the views and wildlife potential are far better)
Along the way, stop at the many available clearings to view the canyon and sometimes the river below.
The dense forest may limit GPS reception but once you get to the cache you should have no trouble keeping a reading.
Almost no bushwacking needed to reach the cache.
Original cache contained the following: stickers, play dough, Magnet frame, sunflower seeds, golfball markers, rubber chicken, rubber duck, keychain flashlight, bug stamps, lanyard, and hand sanitizer.
p.s. We have taken a stroller on this trail with our two girls (however, we did have to carry it a couple of times). If we enjoyed the hike with young ones and stroller I am sure you will too.
