Boca do Inferno is located on the West coast of Cascais.
In this place it is easily seen the sea action eroding the coastal
cliffs.
The name “Boca do Inferno”-
“Hell’s Mouth” given to this place was due to the
strength of the impact of the sea waves on the coastal
cliffs.
The rocks constituting these cliffs are of carbonated
origin. It is easy to see the action due to rainfall, since the
carbon dioxide contained by them, dissolves the carbonate ions
present in the rocks.
In this place cracks and caves are formed in the interior
of the limes and wastes of iron nature are deposited on the ground
giving a typical color to the soil.
Perhaps Boca do Inferno was an old cave whose ceiling
collapsed, forming a big open hole.

Between Cascais and Guincho there is a track
for bicycling, jogging...
