Geocache Description:

A Neolithic stone circle reached by a quiet lane

Long Meg's daughters form one of the largest Neolithic circles in the country and are well worth a visit.

You are advised not to count the stones as the legend has it that if you do, and get the same answer twice, Long Meg will come back to life or the Devil himself will appear! If you want to know more, there is an attractive little leaflet "Lacy's Caves and Long Meg" published in the Walking East of Eden series as North Eden Walk 1 by the East Cumbria Countryside Project. Copies will be in the local tourist offices and the Old Bakery at Melmerby and the Watermill at Little Salkeld, both of which serve excellent refreshments.

And to justify the cache e-mail me through my profile to say which way SMg was facing when he/she desecrated the monument - why she didn't bleed I don't know. Link to Profile - Click here

But above all enjoy the peace and reflect on what these stones have seen over 4500 years.
