Park in the small parking area along Johnson Street (N33 31.832 W84
21.195). The coords for the Virtual Cache will take you to a
monument in the middle of this small cemetary.
This civil war cemetary contains several hundred graves of unknown
Confederate soldiers, in addition to a small handful of marked
graves. These confederate forces died on the battlefield or in
hospitals, all casualties of the Atlanta campaign of 1864. More
information can be found
here.
Clustered around this monument there are 6 marked graves. A seventh
marked grave lies 30 paces to the North.
To receive credit for this cache, you must email me the answers to
the following questions:
1. What was the rank of David Paxton Rymer?
2. What was the rank of Robert H. Lindsay?
3. What army did Agnatius F Brooke fight with?
4. What place of business is across the street?
Please be respectful on this hallowed ground. These young men were
swept up and gave their lives in the great struggle of their
time.
Another significant Civil War virtual cache can be found here:
Turning
Point. This cache is a bit of a drive from where you find
yourself now, but you may want to put it on your list.
Note from February 2010: Back in 2003 when I created this
virtual cache, there were only seven marked graves in this
cemetery. In the past year a number of other markers with names
have been placed, most of them for soldiers from Texas. I wonder if
the names of the other soldiers are known as well, and they're just
waiting for their chance to get markers with names.
