Cache is located in the Northern Highland American Legion State
Forest.
Park at: N45'55.119" W89'38.168"
The container is a smaller metal ammobox container, painted
green with Geocaching written on the outside.
The site is on a penisula of Big Arbor Vitae Lake in Vilas
County. This was once a place with many vacation homes and cabins
on it. The land was owned by the State of Wisconsin and was leased
to the cabin owners. Once their lease ran out, the State refused to
renew the leases, and the people were forced off the land. During
the winter, while the lake was frozen, residents moved their cabins
across the ice and off the penisula (or so the story goes).
Today, the cement foundations and the rock stairway going down
to the lake, are all that remain. Much of the land is covered by
new trees and foliage.
As a child vacationing on the lake, we used to drive our boat to
the penisula, and have a picnic on the foundations of the old
resort.
The cache container is small, so bring a small item to put in
it.
