San Andreas Fault Cache (Stevens Creek Canyon) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

montythemule: I visited this cache site today to inspect the bridge renovation. Due to the redesign of teh bridge there will npo longer be an acceptable illegal parking spot, the parking there would be dangerous and illegal too!

I am Archiving this cache. I plan to put the same container, hidden in the same way farther down the San Andreas Fault.
Thanks To All that have visitied

Geocache Description:

Back in Place after the rains have let up, now you can get to it again....

This cache was named 'Cache of the Week' by Silicon Valley Geocachers!

An easy to get to magnetized ammo box in the middle of the San Andreas Fault. Accessible by bike (from 2 directions) and automobile (from the south only). There is enough room for 2 cars to park. No admission fee required. This deep canyon marks the path of the San Andreas Fault through this part of Santa Clara County. The San Andreas fault is the crack that runs through most of California. This is the point at which two enormous Tectonic plates in the northern hemisphere meet. As you approach from the south (From the reservoir) the Pacific Plate is to your left and the North American Plate is to your right. Constant movement along this fault has ground up the rock around you and many interesting formations can be seen.

One of the more interesting formations is at N37° 16.349 W122° 04.931. This limestone deposit is formed in a similar fashion, as do limestone cavern formations. Some "cave drapery" can be seen about halfway up the formation.

I have enjoyed hiking and biking in this canyon for over 30 years. It is nice to have this so close to the city.

Thanks for visiting
