The cache was established in honour of József Kósa (BearPapa). He was the trainer of four-legged actors in former MAFILM (Hungarian state film company). One day we woke up to find the MAFILM privatised, and the Gödöllõ area where he lived with his animal bought by someone who did not want to see any bears there anymore. There was a big fuss about the case, press reaction and debates: well, its is not so easy to dislodge bears. In the meantime they have to be fed, because bears can be really rude when hungry. Finally Veresegyház housed the bears, and an English society for animal protection helped to raise fund for the establishment of a real modern and comfortable bear and wolf asylum. New bears came too, recently 33 bears live in an enclosed small forest. They have ponds and caves, they obviously feel quite well.
Mr Kósa also got a small house in the forest beside the bears. Lucky visitors can even speak to him, though he is quite an angry holy man, always ready to fight for bears. The story of the asylum can also be read on the homepage of the WSPA: http://www.wspa.org.uk, search:Hungary
The bear-home can be reached from Veresegyház termal bath by car (cca. 3 km). In summer bring a swimsuit, there are pretty good lakes in the village.
You can get the cache at the ticket office. Ask the staff for it!
PS: Bears love apple and carrots. It is healthy for them, too!
