Five Mile Cemetery was established in 1890 and was the first cemetery for Meridian, Idaho.
This small cemetery contains only five headstones dating from 1888 to 1896. Small cemeteries such as this one give us an important window into the past. It is an excellent example of how isolated groups of farmers and ranchers gathered together to form small communities. Meridian was founded as an agricultural community. The first settlers homesteaded along Five Mile Creek beginning in the 1870s. By 1990, Meridian boasted a population of nearly 15,000, and by 2000, a population of 35,000. The area immediately surrounding this cemetery is now being developed into an urban subdivision. Plans are being made to preserve and protect this cemetery in its current location. Because of the location of this cache, a cemetery, a traditional cache is not appropriate. This is a virtual geocache. There is no physical geocache hidden here. Please email the answer to the following question when logging. When was Nina born?
