Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed by me and my dad and since then he has passed away. This cache is now in memory of the great person and geocacher that he was. Come and enjoy one of his favorite places!

This cache is dedicated to the spirit of peace. It is a melding of the idea of the spirit of the native Americans and the importance of peace in our world. The cache is located at the top of a hill near a little city park in Novato called Miwok Park.

Miwok Park is named after the local native American Indians that populated the northern California coast, and is the home of the Marin Museum of the American Indian. The site was actually a Miwok village at one time. The museum is open to the public Tuesday-Friday 10-3pm and weekends 12-4pm, if the museum is open, make sure to stop in and check out the well preserved art and artifact exhibits (see more at (visit link) ) Also in early September each year, there is a trade feast with many tribes attending, music, traditional dancing, food and native craft booths.

Miwok park itself, is a pleasant local park with picnic tables, BBQ pits, kids playground, climbing structures, Bocce ball courts and horseshoe pits, etc. A great place for a lunch or picnic.

The cache is located near the top of a hill above the park on the 'Miwok Trail'. The trail can be located from at least 3 different locations. The simplest is to park in the Miwok parking lot, walk through the park and find the 'Al Rueger Trail' at the east end of the park. Or you can park on a street just north of the park (park near waypoint 38 7.014' N, 122 36.020). The cache is 0.2 miles from the trail head.

When you are at the east end of the park, look for a sign that marks the 'Al Rueger Trail', cross the bridge, and bear to the right. Continue up the hill. When confronted with a choice to go left or right, continue straight toward the hill. The cache is a round tupperware container, near the top of the hill.

This is a quick hike on a well marked trail with great views of the surrounding valleys and excellent sunsets to the west.

We hope that the 'Spirit of Peace' cache will remind those who find it of the importance of peace in our world. If you can exchange trinckets that are associated with either 'spirit' or 'peace', that'd be great. In any case, we wish you peace and hope you enjoy the cache!
