Darwin's Diversion Traditional Cache

Can be accessed with 2wd vehicle. Short walk.
The cache is located near the entrance of the small mining town of Darwin. Darwin was named after Dr. Darwin French in the 1850 or 1860's. Two other locations are also named by the good old doc himself Darwin Falls (accessed from 190 also) and Darwin Wash. Darwin mines were the second largest silver producing mines following behind the Cerro Gordo mines. Some famous residents were Remi Nadeau, who later had the first building to have an elevator, and first to build a 4 story building in Los Angeles. Also, George Hearst, newspaper kings father , who owned several of the mines.
Before your journey, you can get gedunk and gas in Panamint Springs or in Olancha. You can get to the town of Darwin by taking 190 at Olancha off of 395 and turning right towards Death Valley, or if coming from Death Valley, continuing past Panamint Springs until you also pass the entrance to Saline Valley (cat V Jeep trails...only the brave will endure) and see signs for Darwin. Make sure you read the plaque at the entrance.
The cache is a plastic container smaller than the usual cache (Folgers Flavored Java). It contains logbook, sticker, superball, pink/white bracelet, gold hologram, 4 quarters, crazy eights card game, and smiley face lanyard. Please make sure lid is on snugly before returning it to its spot so no unexpected visitors can get in. Continue up the hill to enter the town.
