Geocache Description:

These coordinates will lead you to a historical marker describing this building as the oldest dance hall in Texas.
Many famous country artists have played here, such as Willie Nelson, The Dixie Chicks, and George Strait. You can spend the whole day in this picturesque little town. Lots to see and do.
The Guadalupe River is just down the hill and if you stick around till the evening, you can line dance all night long.

If you have time, ask one of the locals for directions to the River Road Icehouse. (forgot to get the coordinates-DUH!) From there, take the 12 mile drive to the tiny town of Sattler. This is quite possibly the most beautiful stretch of road in the Hill Country.

This area was devastated in the July flood of 2002. You will be amazed at the damage that can still be seen. Some folks have decided to rebuild, but this time they are putting their houses on stilts.
Others have just left their collapsed houses and seem to have gone elsewhere.

To get credit for this cache, email me the answer to this question--Who built the famous dance hall in Gruene?

For those of you who are interested in the history of Texas dance halls, there is a new museum just a few doors down that has some great exhibits detailing the history/culture/music of famous dance halls all over Texas. It just opened in May, 2003.
