Situated on Magdelen Hill Down butterfly reserve, this cache has some beautiful
views from whichever direction of approach you choose. To the South is the small
village of Chilcombe, comprising of just houses and farms, not even a pub. But
fear not, fairly close is the "Percy Hobbs" where one of the southern
cache meets took place.
The reserve is on a South facing hill in 55 acres of open chalk downs. In 1997
the area was reseeded with wild grasses and flowers (the seeds were collected
from other reserves in the area) in order to start the restoration to traditional
flower rich downland. 34 species of butterfly have now been seen here.
Ample parking is available at N51 03.709 W01 16.351 from here follow the footpath
opposite which runs alongside Magdalen Hill Cemetery. For access with buggies
or pushchairs you will need to approach the cache without using the stile, in
which case turn right right immediately before the kissing gate. Wheelchair
users might have difficulty because the route is over unmown wild grasses, but
the approach is without steps or steep hills
