The Cat's Meow Traditional Cache
jspiker: Well folks...the cat has meowed for the last time up here.
I've decided to let this one go because the path and the briars are just a bit to much to deal with safely.
I removed the cache yesterday and will allow the cat to roam freely now.
Thanks to everyone for visiting the cache these past few years!
Happy Trails....

A VERY Steep Climb to a "Great View of Kanawha Valley"...NOT FOR CHILDREN
I've always liked the challenge of hiking to the top of a mountain and enjoying the views. Although a mere .3 miles from the trailhead, it's VERY rugged and VERY steep at the beginning. Watch you footing, wear long pants, take a machette with you (briars galore) and make sure to tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return home. (excellent cell phone coverage in this area)
I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING CHILDREN ON THIS ONE!
It's a very difficult hike but the scenery is breathtaking once you arrive at the cache site. Take your lunch and plan to stay awhile...it's worth the climb to the top!
Parking is availiable at the intersection of Chesterfield Avenue and 57th Street near the Bible Center Church. N 38 18.646 W 081 34.247 in upper Kanawha City. This is directly behind the Kanawha City Mall.
Avoid the temptation of parking at the Mall and crossing the railroad tracks.
The trail head is hard to notice. It's a faint path, at a parking spot beside the first house, on the left side of the street. N 38 18.614 W 081 34.262. It climbs steeply all the way to the top of the mountain. Once you reach the top, move along the ridge towards Port Amherst and the Yeager Bridge. You can see them thru the trees if you look for them. If you don't bring a machette, you MIGHT be able to drop over the side of the ridge and avoid the briars.
After finding the cache, please take the time to climb to the very highest point on the ridge. (only a few hundred yards). You will actually have to "climb" up the side of a LARGE rock outcropping but the stone is VERY stable. I wouldn't do this in wet weather but dry weather is a piece of cake.
There is a MAGNIFICIENT view of the valley from here...sit awhile and enjoy the view. Be sure to bring a good pair of "eyes". At least 7 X 35's.
The cache contains the following items:
A Cell Phone (watch out for my pet spider)
A Pager
A "GOLD" chain with a "Ring" attached to it.
A Peruvian Flute made of pottery.
A Deck of "Peanuts Playing Cards".
A Tape Measure.
A Pair of Plastic Scissors.
A Golf Ball.
A Christmas Tree.
Two Whistles.
Three Key chains.
A Pill Bottle (look inside).
A Spinning Top.
Two Flag Decals.
The "Cats Meow" is a large tupperware container with a collage pasted to the inside.
There is a real "Cat's Meow" inside also. Please leave it in the cache.
