Long Home Run Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

brentbeebe: Yeah, this one was definitely beyond hope. Removed cache and all contents today. I was at least able to rescue the Already Been Vegas TB from a muddy grave, she was still in there. I’ve decided to archive this one, as it’s had a nice long run. It’s with at least a little reluctance, though. Of all my caches hidden so far this one has generated the most interesting logs. Definitely the most polarizing too as far as whether people have liked it or not but that makes for interesting conversation. As long as I’m archiving it though, I might as well mention what I only hinted at in the description. At first it would seem that the arc that one needs to traverse in order to search for the cache is too wide to be reasonable, but as it turns out there is a substantial part of it in center field which is beyond the boundaries of the park. So that made it easier, but you wouldn’t know that until you were actually searching around in there. Also making it easier was the huge tree hollow it was hidden in. It’s the kind of place that once you see it- even from a distance- you knew it had to be there. Tailor-made for a nice, large cache. It was in right field, by the way. Not too far from the bike path. While scoping out the area, I decided on that spot as soon as I saw it, but I wanted to figure out a way to make it a bit more of a challenge to get to. Anyway, thanks to all who visited, and it’ll be good to open up the area to new caching possibilities. brentbeebe

Geocache Description:

In Fleming Park. Coordinates listed are for parking only. To find the cache, read on.

Begin your search at the baseball diamond, home plate. Walk from there to the base of the largest, tallest pine tree at the edge of the woods just to the right of dead center field. Straight line distance from this tree to the cache is about 480 feet, but not necessarily on the same bearing that you just walked. The exact direction from there is up to you! You can rest assured that the cache is located in the woods beyond the tree, in fair territory, and within the confines of the park. One piece of good news- it's a nice large plastic container hidden in an obvious spot. Lots of room for goodies.

I've given this one a 3 star difficulty for the full challenge, even without the leaves. Once the summer canopy returns, it'll be a 4. Terrain is difficult in places, due to the many briars. Do yourself a favor and wear long pants. I know this all sounds daunting- but I encourage you to at least give it a try for a bit without the hints. You may find it to be easier than it initially seems, for reasons you might discover on your search. But after you've endured sufficient torture (your mileage may vary) or if you just want an easier find, please don't hesitate to use any or all of the hints, as the real intention here was to create a cache with varying levels of difficulty. #1 and #2 help to narrow your search area, #3 describes the spot and #4 gives final coordinates.

Special thanks to Kingfish & Harukaze, Gaiter Man, and crashmore, who have all given me feedback and suggestions to help improve this cache.
